Summer Bugs

What a wonderful summer! Full of fun, nature and art. In June, I worked with hi gh school teachers in West Virginia as an Advanced Placement Summer Institute consultant. We looked at student work and contemporary art, talked about teaching strategies, and they made beautiful things. My goal was to help reconnect them with them with their inner art makers in this studio-based professional development week. It was an intense and beautiful experience. This picture was taken on the last day of Mary Jane one of my wonderful students (and new friend) after we reassembled the art room at St Albans High School. I also got to teach at the Wexner Center for the Arts and Columbus School for Girls. At each place I worked with 3rd-5th grade children and we focused on art and nature. My own amazing child was able to participate in both programs. It was a blessing to get to spend so much time with him and his contemporaries this summer. Dr Rau broth

Anyone who has struggled with food intolerances knows that figuring it out is a process! I have done three different elimination diets in the past 5 years or so, and while each of them have helped me some, The Swiss Secret to Optimal Health by Dr. Thomas Rau is the one that has helped the most. Dr. Rau explains the "why"s and the "how"s and offers many healthy, yet yummy recipes. He also has you add tonics in addition to removing irritants. My favorite of the tonics is the Rau broth. With just 5 ingredients, it has become an important staple in my diet. I make it about twice a month. I drink it with breakfast or as a snack and use it in recipes. Alive Again

I was really receptive to my artist reception. I usually feel very awkward in situations like this. But, I must say, to be surrounded by a room full of strangers who were honestly interested and inquiring about my artwork gave me a lot of hope. It was beautiful to see that my images weren't wholly personal. Rather that they could touch people, make them think and feel. The students were informed and articulate at West Virginia State University. They had spent time with the work (it was a closing reception) and their questions and comments reflected this. I really value the comments that people left in my handmade butterfly notebook. It reinforces my impulse to share my own comments with exhibiting artists.
