Westgate Farmers Market

From June through October we are fortunate that a farmers market comes to our neighborhood. We can ride our bikes and take a backpack and get a bounty of locally grown produce as well as some unique items. This is often the first step of my weekly routine to prepare allergen free food for the upcoming week.  We also shop at a local international market for wonderful produce options. We sometimes buy organic, but not always. We truly have a plant-based diet in that all of our meals are oriented around produce, mostly vegetables, however we still eat some meat.   Whenever possible, we support ethical farming for the meat that we eat.  We eat the eggs from our backyard chickens. We have three chickens and get about three eggs a day. That is enough for my family of three, but I rarely  have extra to share with friends and family.

Separate greens from veggies and Refrigerate in a veggie keeper as soon as you get home.  Unbind the greens and store them loosely inside of a plastic grocery store bag in the produce drawer.
